Working remotely and re-location have become popular trends post-pandemic. While it seems to be making a demographic difference, the question of diversity being equitably distributed across all levels, still remains. Join us for a conversation about the state of the creative industry in Europe and working within different cultural spheres. This panel provides a peak into the European creative scene and discusses their experiences and shares insight into how they are navigating their career.

Some of the most successful and lucrative marketing campaigns have been inspired by contributions from Black talent. From Pillsbury’s ‘Say Hello to Poppin’ Fresh Dough’ (1972) by Carol H. Williams to Jimmy Smith’s work on the iconic ‘Nike Basketball’ campaigns and the “G” campaign for Gatorade, Black people are and have been instrumental not only to the advertising industry but American culture. Yet–we are only 8.1% of the industry, making up just 4% of VPs, and 1% of C-Suite. We don’t want to be used for fresh and entertaining content, but excluded from decision-making roles. When is the advertising industry going to wake up and bet on Black? It’s time for a real conversation on how your company can fund and support platforms for Black talent and businesses.

In November of 2021, the ANA/AIMM report on diversity in healthcare marketing revealed that of the healthcare marketing teams examined in the report, only 6.6% of the healthcare marketers were Black, and while diverse representation within healthcare marketing was trending in the right direction, industry progress remained slow. For those driving industry transformation within and outside of that 6.6%, it is clear that intentionality and systemic change must take place, and diversifying the staff is only the beginning. Join Black leaders within the healthcare space as they shed light on how they’ve broken past barriers to entry, how they’re innovating the industry with their unique cultural perspectives, and how they aim to help others within the Black community see where they can make an impact within the healthcare specialty.

In 2020, achieving equity for Black workers became a mission shifting cause for organizations across the US and beyond, prompting posts and promises to make systemic changes in support of all marginalized communities. However, in 2022 the DE&I pledges provoked by the events of 2020 have in many cases been slow to present themselves in impactful ways, if at all. DE&I initiatives are collecting dust behind other business objectives and stats are beginning to tell a story of performative allyship instead of transformative action. In this discussion, we’ll dive into the supportive indicators of idleness, address the continued call to action from the Black community, and give our flowers to the organizations that are getting it right.
